The 67th running of the Irish Derby was held on Wednesday 29th June 1932 over 1 mile 4 furlongs of The Curragh. Subscriptions were 70 sovereigns with a pot of 5250 sovereigns, 700 sovereigns to the second and 200 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned and bred in Ireland by HH Aga Khan III, trained by Frank Butters and ridden by Michael Beary. The winner won by a head in 2 minutes 35.6 seconds, with 2 lengths between second and third.

TRAINERS PROFILE
Frank Joseph Arthur Butters was born in Vienna in 1878 where his father was training racehorses, and when Frank was old enough he acted as Assistant to his father. However, in 1926 he became a trainer at Stanley House in England and made an immediate impact. He was Champion trainer 8 times between 1927 and 1949. During his career he trained for two of the most successful owners in turf history, Lord Derby and HH Aga Khan III. He won 15 English Classics, including two Epsom Derby winners, 1935 Bahram (SR 211) and 1936 Mahmoud (SR 2020), 6 Oaks winners, 1927 Beam (SR 1909), 1928 Toboggan (SR 1990), 1932 Udaipur (SR 1873), 1934 Light Brocade (SR 1956), 1946 Steady Aim (SR 1936) and 1948 Masaka (SR 1952), the 1930 1000 Guineas winner Fair Isle (1893), the 2000 Guineas winner in 1935 Bahram (SR 2110), and 5 St Leger winners, 1928 Fairway (SR 2125), 1932 Firdaussi (SR 1889), 1935 Bahram (SR 2110), 1940 Turkhan (SR 1968) and 1944 Tehran (SR 2081). For all of his successes in England, he trained just 2 Irish Derby winners, Dastur (SR 1942) in 1932 and Turkhan (SR 1968) in 1940. He retired in 1949 after sustaining an injury and died in 1957.

FORMLINE:- The strong favourite was giving 7 lbs to all but two of the field, yet still managed to win by a head in the fast time of 2 minutes 35.6 seconds. However, Dastur (10/1) was second in the English 2000 Guineas beaten 2 lengths by Orwell (SR 1996), and was second (18/1) in the Epsom Derby beaten 3/4 length by April the Fifth (SR 1952when Corcy was unplaced. Dastur (6/1) was then runner-up in the Doncaster St Leger beaten a neck by Firdaussi (SR 1889).
